Whisperwood: Music

Idyll Idun

September 7, 2004
Eric Minella
Originally written by Eric in the mid 1990s as a stand alone song. Eric and Heather recorded this version live in studio at Humboldt State University in September, 2004, shortly before it became part of Whisperwood. During the early stages of recording Eric realized that Muirigheal deserved a bigger part in the story, and that the lyrics to this song seem to describe her dream on that rainy evening of her lament. The lyrics would have been altered, but the recording was already done, therefore, the lyrics are an abstraction from the otherwise mostly linear narrative. Between mixing and mastering Dave, Sean, and Eric realized that Idyll Idun actually pulls the listener out of the story more than it advances the story, so they removed it from Whisperwood. Think of this song as you think of a deleted scene in the special features of a DVD. It was originally intended to be between Listen to the Rain and Ode to Lokai.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A little troop of faeries
Upon a summer night
Went to take a ride
While the moon was bright
Caught their faerie ponies
Mounted on their back
Galloped o’er fences
And o’er hay stacks
Pre chorus:
Lost in a wilderness
Wondering where i am
A feeling rarely felt
By little faerie friends
Civilization overflow
Spills across the land
Find an ancient forest
And enjoy it while you can
Chorus:
Idyll Idun
Singing morning and noon
Idyll Idun
Rhyming the rune
Idyll Idun
A rapturous swoon
Idyll Idun
A spring time tune
Post chorus:
Here’s to the Brownie way
The jolliest of them all
May their shadows n’er grow less
Nor their girths grow one bit small
And here’s to the gnomes
May all their smiles increase
May their lives overflow
With sunshine and peace
They galloped through the forest
They galloped through the glen
‘Twas a merry ride
For every one of them
Till they happen on the bank
Of a baneful river
This made them stop
Or they’d gallop on forever
Pre chorus:
Chorus:
Post chorus:
Chorus:
Chorus extension:
Idyll Idun
With companions of boon
Idyll Idun
By the banks of the Doon
Idyll Idun
By the call of the loon
Idyll Idun
In the light of the moon
